Flash Tuning

Flash Tuning, or ‘Remapping’, is the best way to tune your vehicle, provided the tuner has sufficient capability and experience to provide a high quality file and alterations of hundreds of signals and ‘maps’ within a vehicle’s engine computer.

At RD Technik we have spent years working with a number of tuners from around the globe and finally come together to bring to market the most technically advanced flash tuning solutions and highest quality remapping.

We do not simply buy in cheap files from one of the many tuning brands purporting to be experts in tuning your vehicle. We write files here, in Australia, but we also collaborate with some of the highest calibre developers from around the globe as we believe we can only deliver the best product by working in this manner.

The team behind RD Technik has vast experience with such a range of vehicles that we are experts in all vehicles segments, including Exotics and Sports Cars, 4×4, Performance passenger vehicles, Agricultural, Truck and Commercial, Heavy Plant, Marine, Motorcycle and more.

Diesel and Petrol models are covered, and we can write files from maximum Economy to Performance, and Race files.

Models which are mechanically identical, but with power restricted from factory for marketing purposes, as all manufacturers now do, can be increased to the higher power level before we even “tune” or optimise it. This is because of the false limitations held within the ECU by the cost-cutting manufacturers, who wish to have one engine to service a host of applications and price points and outputs. The difference is simply software based and provided your tuner has the necessary expertise, as we do, this can be upgraded by Flash Tuning.

For NA motors:
We are pleased to launch RDT-Flash-PLUS. This unique tool combines a transmission remap and ECU remap on one tool simultaneously and is available for naturally aspirated vehicles.

It is also capable of tuning almost any naturally aspirated (non-turbo) vehicle via OBDII. With a true global first, this includes all untunable vehicles, such as Toyota, Lexus, new Porsche 981 and 991 models and Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, as well as new SRT Jeep models and many more.

This is the single most exciting tool we have developed and is taking the world by storm.

RDT Tuning boxes

The RD Technik tuning modules are custom tuned for your vehicle and deliver some of the most sophisticated technology in this market segment.
Developed and written in Australia, the latest ranges of Performance engine flash tuning capabilities will satisfy the most demanding of clients. We focus the power and torque delivery right across the revs range, rather than concentrating on any particular figure from a dyno run.

Dyno gains are right up there with the best, however, there is much more to a quality flash tune than what numbers it seems on a dyno.

We tune for low down responses and to suit every day driving as well as making your vehicle faster over the rev range. Smooth, linear, punchy gains from low revs, coupled to economy gains and reliability is the aim of our Performance tune. Your vehicle will be transformed into a rapid and more efficient version of itself, rather than a race car.
Our tuning modules are multi-channel, working with some of the most advanced architecture and processing power possible in a piggy back system. These units offer a direct plug in, fast installation market leading solution to those clients not wanting, or not able to benefit from, an RDT Flash Tune.

The Basics:
The units are some of the most advanced on the market, with a range of signals we can access. For example, on Diesels: direct fuel, direct boost, and on many of our modules, cam shaft signal and throttle position. It depends on the application but our modules manipulate the signals from the engine that we need them to manipulate. Don’t be fooled by ‘tuners’ trying to sell you devices which they claim are superior than anything out there when they are just modifying fuelling. It matters not how sophisticated their unit claims to be at modifying fuel, or what software is being used to modify it, or whether it’s been ‘custom tuned’. They – just – alter – fuel. Things have moved on in the tuning world since the days when such primitive basic devices were deemed a suitable option, no matter how much they can be dressed up. There is always far better to be had if your tuner has suitable knowledge and skill, and the right software and hardware.

In straightforward terms, our multi-channel piggy backs are safe because of their capabilities. Whereas ‘fuel-only’ chips can cause issues because EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) to not be suitably controlled nor can AFR (Air Fuel Ratio). Air fuel ratio is important because just adding more fuel to an engine will raise the temperatures. Ultimately this can cause catastrophic failure of components. For this reason, it is vital for your tuner to balance fuel and air. More air (more boost) will be provided by being able to directly alter boost. Increasing the boost enough to match the required level of fuel will, generally speaking, maintain safety when done correctly as we do.

Are the RDT modules DPF safe?
Yes. All of our modules are DPF (Diesel Particle Filter) safe as soot levels are the same as factory levels. Again this is due to the multi-channel capabilities of our modules. The number of times we’ve had client vehicles using other ‘chips’ or inferior tuning boxes in to us with DPF issues is astounding. The first thing we do is remove their previous tuning solution which was just adjusting fuel, or a very crude method of altering more channels.

Do we cover petrol models too?
Yes, our tuning modules are available for Turbo Diesel and Turbo Petrol models including all 4×4 and all new high performance models not yet tuneable via Flash Tuning such as Audi RS6/7 Audi S3, Golf 7 Gti, BMW M5, AMG 63 bi-turbo and many more.

RDT Shift and RDT Shift Plus

RD Technik is pleased to bring to market RDT-Shift a revolutionary tuning tool capable of tuning almost any transmission in existence.

The capabilities of this tool are astounding and we are pleased to be at the forefront of gearbox tuning technology.

The difficulty with the modern day vehicle is the inability to tune a vehicle’s transmission to release the engine’s true potential. The transmission always has the last say in levels of torque and power getting through to the road. The engine can be tuned as much as you wish, but the transmission will always be holding it back and tuning it can not only transform the driving experience but can also increase torque and power and economy on most vehicles.

Chips and Piggy backs can never access load limiters, but even the best ECU tunes cannot access all of the transmission load limiters on modern gearboxes and therefore there is always more torque and economy to be had. Certain transmission tuning has been available for some time, yet nothing has been able to tune a number of marque’s and especially, ‘un-tunable’ gearboxes from the likes of Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Mazda, AMG, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW and many others. This tool is not only able to tune almost any gearbox in existence, but can be done at one of our dealers through the OBDII port, and is done in seconds.

Gearbox response and shifting between gears can be made up to twice as fast, whilst being smoother, and depending on vehicle, includes alterations to shift pattern, shift point, launch control, clamping pressure, converter lock-up, torque limits and more. This leads to smoother shifting, less clutch wear, and a more rewarding drive. For Stage 2 and above engine tuned vehicles, it is an essential requirement to ensure the gearbox can appropriately and safely handle substantial improvements to torque.

How do you actually remap the ECU?

Our Dealers link to the vehicles ECU/ECM with a laptop through either the vehicles diagnostic OBDII port or directly to the ECU on a bench. At this point the current engine management file is read this is then sent to RD Technik with a brief on what you the customer wishes to achieve and from this a customised file is produced for your vehicle. This is then installed on the vehicle and you then have opportunity for yourself to experience the amazing results. Depending on the vehicle, the remap normally takes less than 1 hour to complete the re-map.

Is it safe to do?

We believe RD TECHNIK’s files are the most researched and developed specifically for the Australian market. RD TECHNIK have invested heavily not only in research and development but the software used to define the constraints within the ECU allowing them to provide tunes with significantly higher performance than most in the market while keeping well within the specification of the engine and transmission. At no point do we remove engine warnings or limits for the protection of the engine.

Every tune comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. Of course should you not be 100% happy with your tune then we would appreciate the opportunity to address the issue however this is your choice. We are very confident our quality will deliver to expectation which is why we offer 30days where most offer 7days.

What gains can I get from remapping?

Whatever gains are possible we will get within the safe limits of the engine and transmission, we have a great deal of experience in most makes and models so it is best to contact us to discuss so we can set an expectation. So often we hear exaggerated performance numbers to the point of unbelievable and just because you can does not mean you should. This is why so many “race tweakers” fail to make it in the commercial arena. Not only do we focus on maximum performance (power or fuel savings) but also the longevity of the asset. This involves not only understanding what is possible from the engine but what is possible under different applications so not to destroy the engine or transmission under the extreme conditions we often find in Australia.

Does it affect the warranty?

Many will tell you different but the simple answer is YES, if discovered an ECU tune will void your warranty. Whether this is legal, moral etc is mute, in practice the answer is warranty void. That’s the bad news, the good news is after tuning 100’s of vehicles some of which must have had warranty issues, our tunes have never resulted in a warranty claim being refused. Most Dealer’s diagnostic tools are unable to detect a program change. VW tools can yet VW’s are probably the most tuned vehicle in Australia, these suggests Dealers will often exercise discretion however we cannot guarantee this discretion.

Do you keep the original ECU file?

Yes a copy of your file is kept by your dealer, AP Tuning and RD Technik.

What warranty do you give?

Every Tuning remap is guaranteed to ensure your complete satisfaction with our renowned customer service provided right throughout the upgrade process.

We offer a lifetime warranty against software faults and we even keep your original file in case it is ever needed. If re-installation of this file is necessary, we will re-install it free of charge.
